A traffic impact assessment establishes the effect a development — a new building, a road widening or similar — will have on the existing network. It forecasts how much additional traffic the scheme will generate over the day and at peak times, simulates the effect on existing flows and sets out the infrastructure improvements required.

Road Safety Audit (RSA)
A road safety audit is a systematic, independent examination carried out at every stage of a road scheme — new construction, improvement or maintenance — to identify potential safety risks. Its purpose is to prevent, from the outset, the collisions and injuries that design faults can cause.

- Safety risk analysis: Design geometry, signing and road markings, lighting and other elements are checked against safety standards.
