Ümraniye–Kavacık–Beykoz Rail Alignment Updated
Ümraniye–Kavacık–Beykoz Rail Line — in the feasibility study for this line, the alignment and station plan have been reassessed against current transport data. The work aims to strengthen the limited rail access of Beykoz and Kavacık by connecting the area to the Istanbul metro network by way of Ümraniye.
Station catchments along the alignment were set out in detail, taking account of population, employment, education and health uses as well as existing bus and ferry connections. Reducing walking distances at interchanges and locating station entrances in keeping with the urban fabric were among the plan's guiding criteria.
The underground depot required to operate the line was examined in terms of capacity, access, construction conditions and surrounding land uses. Engineering requirements along the different sections of the route, station layouts and operating scenarios were brought into line with one another.
The updated plan is being compared on passenger demand, capital cost, operating expenditure, economic benefits and environmental effects. The study concludes with a rail solution that will strengthen public transport access in Beykoz for the long term, integrate with other modes and be capable of delivery in stages.
