Integrated Transport Scheme for Ali Osman Sönmez State Hospital

Ali Osman Sönmez State Hospital Transport and Traffic Impact Assessment — as part of this study, the vehicle and pedestrian movements that will arise once the hospital opens have been analysed together with the surrounding road network. Alongside patient and visitor trips, the differing operational needs of staff, service, logistics and emergency vehicles were taken into account.

Existing traffic counts were combined with forecasts of the trips the hospital will generate in order to assess the capacity of nearby junctions. Car park entries and exits, the emergency department connection, public transport stops and pedestrian access were examined within a single circulation scenario.

In response to the needs identified, a complementary set of preliminary designs was prepared covering new road connections, junction geometry, lane arrangements, the approach to signal control and safe pedestrian crossings. Priority was given to keeping emergency vehicles moving without interruption and to protecting the residential streets around the hospital.

Rather than improving a single junction, the package addresses the hospital site and the main transport corridors around it together. The aim is acceptable traffic performance at busy times, accessible public transport connections and safe access to the hospital for every user.
