This study covers the preliminary design work carried out to improve the capacity, safety and level of service of the Izmir Ring Road and its junctions. The aim is to provide safe, fast and uninterrupted infrastructure capable of carrying the rising traffic volumes on a road that serves as a critical spine for travel across the city. The work addresses junction geometry, the optimisation of lane arrangements, the strengthening of connector roads and a more balanced management of through and local traffic.
It also seeks to shorten journey times, eliminate accident blackspots, reduce the economic losses caused by congestion and deliver environmentally responsible, sustainable solutions. Taken together, these measures are intended to give Izmir a transport system that remains effective, reliable and modern over the long term.
