Project Objectives

This study measures existing traffic flows and levels of service at four principal junctions in the Hadımköy area of Arnavutköy, Istanbul, in order to identify the capacity problems arising at peak times and to develop effective responses to the additional demand expected once the surrounding development areas are built out. The data collected were used to model present conditions numerically and to test alternative geometric layouts in simulation — bow-tie, trumpet and grade-separated junction options — so that concrete, workable proposals could be developed to minimise delay, raise average speeds and prevent queuing.

The intention is both to improve traffic flow in the short term and to secure sustainable transport infrastructure over the longer term.

Project Details

City: Istanbul

Country: Türkiye

Client: Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality

Project Period: 2025

Scope of Work: The study covers traffic counts carried out by UAV at four principal junctions in the Hadımköy area during the morning and evening peaks, a simulation model of existing conditions, a scenario representing full build-out of the development areas, and performance analysis of two alternative geometric layouts.
