The Dolmabahçe–Levazım road tunnel is intended above all to relieve urban traffic in some of the busiest parts of Istanbul's European side, notably Beşiktaş, Kabataş, Esentepe and Yıldız. By allowing traffic arriving from the directions of Taksim, Kağıthane and Kabataş to reach the Levazım and Levent axis directly, without passing through bottlenecks such as Beşiktaş Square, the scheme lifts a substantial share of the load off the surrounding network. In doing so, it is expected to cut vehicle operating costs and the time lost by passengers, reduce environmental impacts and provide an express alternative route.
The tunnel is also a strategic infrastructure investment that improves urban mobility and strengthens the transport network as a whole.
