Project Objectives

Converting the existing İŞGEM buildings in Canik into a passenger transfer centre puts a disused building stock back to work and, at the same time, offers the chance to bring the transport modes serving eastern Samsun together in a single place. The project integrates intercity and regional coach movements, the rail system, urban public transport and pedestrian access within an interchange arrangement that is safe, legible and accessible.

The study examined the site's connection to the surrounding road network, existing and planned roads, the rail corridor, public transport routes and access to the airport. Traffic movements at the junctions and approach arms were assessed against field data, and comparable passenger terminals, coach station sites and user requirements were reviewed.

Vehicle entry and exit points, coach stands, waiting areas, taxi and shuttle bays, pedestrian circulation and step-free access are addressed as a single system. Functional and geometric proposals are being developed so that the different movements on the site do not conflict with one another, rail interchange is straightforward and the investment can be delivered in stages.
