Travel demand and route analysis have been carried out for the Erkilet–Cumhuriyet Square–Kartal Junction Tram Line planned in Kayseri. The corridor is intended to integrate residential areas, the city centre and major employment, education and service destinations with the existing rail network.

The existing transport network, public transport routes, land use, population and employment data were brought together in the transport model. Using forecasts for the years ahead, the expected passenger numbers, walking access and interchange potential of different alignment and station options were compared.

Service frequency, rolling stock requirements, journey time and the operating relationship with the existing tram system were assessed for the line. Public transport connections and pedestrian access around the stations were examined so that the corridor works not simply as a new line but as a complementary part of the city-wide network.

The technical findings were carried into the feasibility report together with capital and operating costs, economic benefits and environmental gains. The study provides the evidence base for a tram investment consistent with Kayseri's long-term transport objectives, capable of delivery in stages and sustainable in operation.
