Field Data Assessed for the Canik Passenger Transfer Centre
In the study on the conversion into a passenger transfer centre of the İŞGEM buildings in Canik, Samsun, field data on the site's road, rail and urban public transport connections have been assessed. The work addresses not only the functions within the buildings but their effect on the surrounding transport network.
Traffic movements at the Bus Terminal Junction and on the main approaches to the site were analysed against count data. Establishing how heavy goods vehicle, bus and car movements are distributed across the day allowed the likely effect of the transfer centre's entries and exits on existing junction capacity to be examined.
Existing and planned road connections, the tram corridor, urban bus routes and pedestrian access were brought together within a single analytical framework. Platforms, waiting areas and pedestrian links were laid out so that passengers can interchange between modes along a short and legible route.
The field results fed into the circulation and accessibility decisions set out in the project report. The aim is to bring intercity coaches together with Samsun's rail and bus networks under one safe, accessible and well-ordered transfer centre.
