Station and Pedestrian Tunnel Options for the Acemler Interchange

Station and Pedestrian Tunnel Options for the Acemler Interchange

Alternative solutions have been developed for the new interchange station and pedestrian underpass planned at Acemler, one of Bursa's busiest transport nodes. The work brings passenger movements from the rail system, the bus stands, the stadium, the hospital and the surrounding neighbourhoods together on a single accessible pedestrian spine.

Existing passenger flows and interchange directions were examined to assess platform layouts, walking distances and the crowding that can build up at busy times. The station options were compared in terms of separating rail operations, platform capacity and the connections to be made with existing infrastructure.

The entrances to the underpass, the arrangement of stairs and ramps, step-free routes and emergency exit points were developed across a range of scenarios. Three-dimensional modelling and plan work allowed sightline and circulation decisions that make wayfinding easier to be tested together.

The options are also being considered in terms of their effect on rail operations and road traffic during construction. The aim is an integrated station solution that shortens interchange times, works safely for every group of users and can accommodate future growth in passenger numbers at Acemler.
