Erkilet, Cumhuriyet Square and Kartal Junction form an important corridor linking Kayseri's residential areas, city centre and centres of employment and education. The study establishes the viability of a high-capacity, reliable tram line that will meet growing demand along this corridor, work as part of the existing rail and bus network, and make the city centre easier to reach.
The feasibility work examined the existing transport network, land use, population and employment distribution and public transport trips. Future travel demand was forecast using the transport model, and route and station options were compared in terms of catchment areas, interchange points, journey times and expected passenger numbers.
For the preferred corridor, system and operating characteristics, rolling stock requirements, service frequency, capital and operating costs and staging options are assessed. The economic and financial analysis brings together time savings, vehicle operating costs, environmental benefits and the increase in public transport use, with the aim of setting an investment framework consistent with Kayseri's long-term transport objectives.
